Karen Masters - The Astronomers' Library

In this engaging talk, Karen Masters will explore her latest book, The Astronomers’ Library: The Books that Unlocked the Mysteries of the Universe. Spanning more than 800 years of astronomical writing from cultures around the world, the book weaves together art, history, and science to show how our understanding of the cosmos has evolved. Whether you’re a space enthusiast or simply curious about the stories behind scientific discovery, this talk offers something for everyone.

Karen Masters is a Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Haverford College, where her research focuses on galaxy formation, structure, and evolution. She previously served as spokesperson for the Sloan Digital Sky Survey’s fourth data release an international collaboration that created the most detailed three dimensional map of the night sky to date. She is also the Principal Investigator of the citizen science project Galaxy Zoo, which empowers volunteers worldwide to help classify galaxies and advance astronomical research.
